The Victorian branch of Fred Nile's Christian Democratic Party has endorsed Timmering farmer Ewan McDonald to be its Murray candidate for the coming federal election. Mr McDonald has had a long-standing interest in politics, having been formally involved in the Victorian National Party during which time he served two years as state president of the Young Nationals.
Since becoming active in the Christian Democratic Party, Ewan has previously stood as a candidate in the 2006 Victorian State election and as lead Victorian Senate candidate in the 2007 federal election.
Ewan has an unorthodox approach to politics.
Rather than compromising principle for the sake of populism, he is more concerned with doing what is right.
He believes the personal liberties, freedom and prosperity enjoyed by the citizens of western democratic nations, including Australia, is due in large part to a foundational culture built upon Judeo-Christian values.
Ewan has decided to put himself forward as a candidate in the electorate of Murray for a number of reasons.
``The division of Murray is one of the most conservative electorates in the nation, and I think it deserves to have some genuine conservative representation and I don't believe we have that in the sitting member,'' he said.
The Christian Democratic Party was founded by Reverend Fred Nile who, after 28 years in office, is now the longest serving MP in NSW Parliament.
