Phone: (03) 5482 1111Stewards held an inquiry into the analyst's finding of testosterone from a pre-race urine sample at a level higher then prescribed for geldings.
Although not every trainer uses drugs to help horses recover while not in the racing season, it is not uncommon for trainers to use testosterone or other drugs, according to an industry source who preferred not to be named.
These drugs may be used to enhance recovery of muscles and ligaments and are free to use while horses are not racing.
However, it is prohibited for a racing horse to use drugs while competing and many blood and urine tests are carried out at events to make sure drugs are not present.
In Archard's case, it is possible the drug was used during the non-racing season to boost recovery, but the drug had not had time to leave the system before racing.
Archard was unable to comment on the matter, as it is under appeal.
