Tribute to fire officer

Friday, July 30, 2010

Retired NSW Rural Fire Service officer Ian Fisher was recognised for his 28 years' service at a presentation in Mathoura yesterday.

Mr Fisher has been an active member of the NSW Rural Fire Service since he moved to the area in 1982 as a Murray Shire engineer.

About 40 people gathered at the presentation, including fellow rural fire service members, Murray Shire councillors, friends, community members and colleagues.

As well as being a thorough and respected member of the rural fire service, Mr Fisher was also an active community member, serving as president of the Mathoura golf and fishing clubs, a member of the Mathoura Chamber of Commerce and a Murray Shire manager.

Bill Berryman, Keith Berryman, Superintendent Gary Eason and group captain Russell Perry spoke about Mr Fisher, his contribution to the area and thanked him for his many years of service.

Mr Fisher was presented with a plaque and red gum clock in recognition of his contributions.
